At last, the Royal clivage.
Another good thing to come out of yesterday’s election is that finally Ségolène Royal and François Hollande have admitted they have separated. The separation itself of course is a matter for the two of them, but all those repeated denials of something so obvious to everyone has only shown them up as being less than honest with their supporters and perhaps with themselves. A simple statement at the beginning of the campaign would have enabled them to work together more efficiently.
On the equally vexed subject of Sarkozy and his wife, there is a nice comment in AgoraVox, the citizen’s newspaper, by a man who describes himself as an Arab doctor of French nationality passing through Paris. He notes that Cecilia Sarkozy rudely cut the Wives of Heads of State dinner at the G8: she clearly dislikes the duties associated with being First Lady of France. He also notes that Sarkozy appeared drunk (on Russian vodka??) at his press conference the same week, unused to alcohol but apparently obliged to drink (several??) official toasts to some project he was cooking up with Vladimir Putin. The suggestion is that Sarkozy should become a Wahhabist Muslim: that way he would be expected to keep his wife out of sight and no one would offer him alcohol.

I agree it’s good Segolene finally admitted that as a fact, but I think it was a particularly bad timing!!
Furthermore, it’s really weird to see that the fourth defeat of the left wing still gives the impression that they have won (especially when you see their face!).
